It’s day 100 of the case study! Are you excited? I’m definitely excited.
I’ve been looking forward to day 100 for a couple weeks now. There’s no reason in itself to be excited about it, but it’s an exciting milestone. I was going to do a cool little design with the cover photo to celebrate the 100 days.
But, yesterday ended up being a really interesting day.
As you can tell by reading these posts, I’ve been banking on eBooks and Amazon Affiliate websites to make up a fair portion of my revenue for the next few years. It’s passive, once the sites are up, so it will allow for me to focus on building up the consulting business or building up the actual business.
That plan got nuked yesterday on day 100.
The reason why is Amazon slashed the commission rates for their affiliate program by up to 80%. This means the ROI of time and money is no longer worth it.
So, despite having invested a lot into Amazon Affiliate sites, I’m pulling the plug. I’m also pulling the plug from Amazon KDP eBooks as a result.
Here are my thoughts:
- This cut was inevitable, especially as Amazon becomes such a household name. They don’t need affiliates, and they don’t need to give away 8 percentage points of the margin anymore
- It’s the smart business decision, and I don’t blame them anymore
- Some people are reacting quite poorly to this online and are starting a petition fo Amazon to “treat their affiliates right” and bring the program back. I think this is a waste of time.
This certainly stinks, don’t get me wrong.
But, I’m actually not that disappointed by it.
There is always an opportunity out there in the world.
Now, I can hopefully find a way to build out a business that can’t be turned off with the flick of a switch!
What I did today to make $10K a day at 30
Wake up & sleep:
I went to bed at 11:04pm and woke up at 7:53 for a total of 8 hours and 10 minutes of sleep.
I’m only at 58% recovery on the Whoop.
This is trash. It means my energy isn’t where it needs to be in order to get the right amount of work done!
I walked around the apartment for 10,000 steps to stay active. It took 90 minutes of pacing, but it was worth it in order to get the exercise in.
Diet was okay, a bunch of eggs and veggies.
My Day Job
Tuesday, so I had some meetings. Nothing crazy.
Investment real estate
I scrolled the standard real estate scrolls, but didn’t find anything I really like.
I have two projects going.
I’ve actually done very little thus far. I’ve started gathering research in order to help prepare to guide my work.
Lots of time with my fiancee, the love of my life.
There is nothing more important than being with the right person.
What I made today
Rental Income: $33
Today’s pro-rated amount of monthly expenses
Once I pay off my debt, I’ll break out expenses into a line by line as well.
My plan for tomorrow
Tomorrow is going to be:
- Re-design $10K/a day at 30
- Consulting work
About the Author & The $0-$10K/Day Case Study
Dean’s goal is to create $10,000/day in passive income through entrepreneurship. Too many people write “success porn” that skates over the struggles many face in entrepreneurship. His goal is to create something real that highlights the lack of sleep, disappointment from family, and setbacks you really face in entrepreneurship.
